Marie-Andrée Roy
Marie-Andrée Roy is a professor at the Department of Science and Religion, and Director of the Institute of Feminist Research and Studies at UQAM.
Founding member of the collective L’autre Parole, she finds herself in the midst of questioning with sociologists and feminist theologians who claim recognition of the role of women in the church.
In 1991, Mrs Roy became involved in a research project led by Anita Caron of UQAM. It was during this vast survey that the sociologist who affirms women’s role in the church carried out doctoral research entitled "Women and power in the Church. The case of the Catholic Church from 1970 to today.” Her research goals were many. The author aims to highlight the social factors that influence the balance of power within the church, in order to trace women's own perceptions of their role and to propose strategies for action in a perspective of transformation. A challenge that the committed researcher met with success!
In spite of the complexity of the demonstration and the diversity of research objectives, this work remains an indispensable tool in the religious field, not only because of her interesting historiographical review, but also due to her well-defined theoretical approach and her concern with being true to the experiences of women, theologians, and workers in the field.
